Views from Tombstone - Busan, South Korea
While in Busan, I took the advice of my cab driver and went in search of the Gamcheon Culture Village. He described it as historic neighborhood built on the side of a mountain. According to the map I had, the village was only a short walk from the metro station. It turned out Gamcheon was on the opposite slope of the mountain from the metro station. As I hiked up and over I found myself lost in a different neighborhood, that of Ami-dong Tombstone Culture Village. The village was built on top of a cemetery as a refuge for the living during the Korean War and is home to photographer Choi Min-sik's gallery. When I stopped to consult my map I was approached by a Korean woman with hiking poles. I think she was also lost and tried to ask me for directions. The language barrier made for an awkward conversation. She continued on her way. I turned around and the view is what greeted me.
